An eyewitness video shows the moment the river Merdovine burst its banks and broke through a bridge wall, uprooted a tree and flooded the streets of the Alpine city of Bardonecchia, in Italy.
The Fire Brigade Service said they rescued six people from a camper van swept away by water and mud but no victims were reported.
The cause of the sudden flooding of the Merdovine is likely to be a landslide in the nearby mountains.
