On Sunday, Ukraine’s neighbour Romania heads to the polls for the final vote in its presidential race after December’s election was cancelled over alleged Russian interference.

The contenders are Nicosur Dan, the centrist mayor of Bucharest, and George Simion, a former football hooligan and Trump fan who has swept into the race after the previous front-runner, the pro-Russian Calin Georgescu was banned from standing.
The two men offer wildly differing views of the future of Romania – a closer friendship with Moscow, or alignment with the EU.
