Speaking at the annual Munich Security Conference, the US Secretary of State reiterated the message that the Trump administration does ‘not seek to separate, but to revitalise an old friendship and renew the greatest civilisation in human history’.
For many European leaders, the speech greeted with relief after a highly critical speech by President Trump at the recent Davos summit.
But some foreign policy experts point out he did not once mention many of the biggest security threats to Europe such as the Russia-Ukraine war or China. Instead, he focussed on issues such as climate change and immigration.
