Russell Brand granted bail after appearing in court over sex offence charges

Russell Brand has been granted bail after appearing at Westminster Magistrates Court to face rape and sexual assault charges.

The actor and comedian spoke only to confirm his name and address.

He was charged last month with rape, indecent assault, oral rape and sexual assault relating to four women, following a joint investigation by The Times, Sunday Times and Channel 4 Dispatches.

He said he welcomes the chance to prove his innocence.
