Russia launches one of war’s largest air attacks on Kyiv, hitting maternity ward

The Ukrainian capital Kyiv was shrouded in smoke after one of the biggest Russian drone attacks of the full scale war.

Explosions went on for hours during the night as air defence forces shot down hundreds of drones and missiles – setting blocks of flats ablaze and damaging the city’s St Sophia Cathedral. In the southern city of Odesa – a maternity hospital and ambulance station were hit, along with the city’s Film Studio.
