Russia marks Victory over Nazis while still invading Ukraine

Flanked by the Chinese president Xi Jinping and generals from North Korea, the Russian leader Vladimir Putin has presided over the annual Victory day parade in Moscow’s Red Square – the country’s biggest display of military might.

The Kremlin imposed heavy security for the event – blocking off the city centre and shutting down most access to the internet, as scores of military vehicles rumbled past, from intercontinental ballistic missiles to unmanned battlefield drones.
