Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has told Sky News he was "astonished" by Robert Jenrick’s comments yesterday that suggested people chanting Allahu Akbar should be arrested.
Mr Khan said: "I’m astonished, somebody aspiring to be the leader of the Conservative Party, somebody aspiring one day to be the prime minister, could show the ignorance he has shown with his comments.
"I hope he will reflect and change his mind and apologise."
He also thanked the police and "Londoners" for showing "we are a city united" after far right protesters threatened to target the capital.
