You may have seen them stuck on parking meters – fake QR codes – designed to dupe drivers. Instead of paying for parking, victims end up being signed up to expensive, useless subscriptions. It’s a scam worth millions and millions. But who is behind it?
For the first time, ITV News – working together with more than 20 other international news organisations including The Bureau of Investigative Journalism – can reveal the existence of a major global scamming organisation.
As well as QR codes, they appear to run dating scams, competition scams and fake adverts offering cheap electronics. And it’s an operation’s with tentacles reaching deep into Britain.
