Scrapping trials for some offences may be only way to clear court backlog

The chief inspector of the Crown Prosecution Service has said "radical" action is needed to overhaul the criminal justice system, as the Crown Court backlog in England and Wales hits a new record high.

Speaking exclusively to Sky News, Anthony Rogers has warned victims are being let down by severe delays and says measures like scrapping jury trials in some cases may need to be considered.

Sky’s Ashna Hurynag has spoken to a sexual abuse survivor whose case took almost six years from reporting to sentencing.
