'Serious questions to answer,' says Starmer of opposition MPs who oversaw Afghan data breach

The Prime Minister has said "ministers who served under the party opposite have serious questions to answer," as he addressed the data breach, which risked the lives of thousands of Afghans, in the House of Commons.

A dataset that contained the personal information of nearly 19,000 people who applied to the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (Arap) was released "in error" in February 2022 by a defence official.

Speaking to MPs at Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday, Starmer said: “There’s always been support across this House for the United Kingdom fulfilling our obligations to Afghans who served alongside British forces," as he welcomed further inquiries into the matter by the defence committee.

"I hope those that were in office at the time will welcome that scrutiny," said Starmer.
