Sheffield Wednesday, one of the oldest football clubs in the world, has filed for administration.
The club currently sit at the bottom of the Championship and it has had well-publicised financial troubles in recent months and had been charged with regulations breaches by the English Football League after players were not paid on time.
The club will face a further points deduction for going into administration.
