Police in Frisco, Texas, USA, issued an apology for an incident in which a family from Arkansas travelling to a basketball tournament were incorrectly pulled over in a so-called “high risk stop” and at least one officer drew his weapon on them.
Police bodycam footage of the incident shows officers with guns drawn towards the car and its occupants, with an officer warning them they could be shot if they did not comply. The car was being driven by Demetria Heard, with her husband in the passenger seat and her sixth grade son, alongside her nephew, in the back seat.
Heard and her son were ordered out of the vehicle and handcuffed.
The family was released and officers apologised officer after they realised they ran the car’s license plate to Arizona by mistake, leading them to believe the black Dodge Charger they were travelling in might have been stolen.
After the incident, Heard’s husband broke down in tears, saying he feared for his son’s life.
