Should footballers come off social media to avoid online abuse? | ITV News

Almost a third of footballers say their mental health is impacted by online abuse, according to the results of a Professional Footballers Association (PFA) survey shared exclusively with ITV News.

We have spoken exclusively to Blackpool winger CJ Hamilton, who was targeted with racial abuse online last month.

He said it was "sickening" to receive racist emojis after scoring against Luton Town.

The scale of online abuse in football has been in the spotlight since Lionesses star Jess Carter spoke openly about being targeted during the summer.

The PFA survey means that over 1,000 players are impacted by online abuse.
