This week, leaders from around the world will meet in Vilnius, Lithuania, for a two-day Nato summit. Along them will be Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine – a controversial guest, given that his country is not a Nato member.

He is there to try to agree on a path to joining the most powerful military alliance in the world; a surely unbeatable force, who would be the most significant weapon imaginable in his war against Russia.
But some leaders, including Joe Biden, want to block the bid, calling the prospect of Ukraine’s membership “premature”.
