A landmark trial aiming to shape the future of prostate cancer screening in the UK has begun testing a group of men considered to be at the highest risk of developing the disease.
The Transform trial, funded by Prostate Cancer UK and the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), will try out a combination of tests – such as genetic spit tests, blood tests, or 10-minute MRI scans – to see which is most effective at detecting the disease.
It will focus on men at the highest risk, such as Black men, and could produce game-changing results in as little as two years.
Black men face double the risk of developing and dying from prostate cancer, the chief executive officer of the NIHR said, describing the start of the trial as a "huge moment".
