Sky launches partnership to boost girls' sport and UK economy

Sky is launching a new partnership to get more girls playing sport, which it says could unlock £6.5bn in economic and health benefits by 2035.

The new initiative, with Lioness and Arsenal forward Alessia Russo and the charity Goals 4 Girls, will give youngsters from underserved backgrounds better access to grassroots football and the chance to take part in a new tournament, The Alessia Cup.

It comes after research commissioned by Sky found that girls aged 11-18 missed out on 280 million hours of sport annually and closing that gap could increase productivity and save the NHS millions of pounds.
