In Syria, a fragile ceasefire is holding between the new government’s forces and Kurdish authorities in the north east of the country.
For more than a decade, the Kurdish-backed forces have governed that region with a high degree of autonomy, but now face the threat of the government’s growing influence.
Kurdish communities say their future is under threat, and are preparing to defend their land at any cost.
