Families living in bed poverty have shared their shame at being unable to afford a proper sleeping place for their children as charities warn of a worsening crisis.
Barnardo’s estimates just under one million children are living in bed poverty – where children have nowhere proper to sleep, meaning they may share a bed, sleep in a broken or damaged bed or even on the floor.
The term also includes families who are unable to wash or dry bedding because they can’t afford to pay for energy.
