Southeast Asia earthquake: Death toll rises across region as aftershock tremors feared

At least three people have died in Thailand and "many" are feared dead in Myanmar after a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit the Southeast Asia region on Friday.

The midday tremor with an epicentre near Mandalay – Myanmar’s second-largest city – was followed by a strong 6.4 magnitude aftershock.

Thai Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai confirmed three people were killed and 90 others remain missing after a multi-story building, that was under construction, collapsed in Bangkok. A state of emergency has since been declared in the capital.
