The public inquiry into the Southport attack last summer has opened with the families and survivors told they will get answers as to what went wrong.

A minute’s silence was held during the first of the inquiry’s hearings, with the chair saying, that attack at a Taylor Swift dance class was “one of the most egregious crimes in our country’s history”.
