Southport residents clean up after ‘despicable’ riots

Merseyside police say rioting in Southport last night showed a "despicable" disrespect toward grieving families and the community.

More than 50 officers were injured in violence fuelled by false online rumours about the 17-year-old boy arrested over Monday’s knife attack, which killed three young girls.

Police forces across the region have been drafted in to help prevent a second night of rioting.
