Spanish police have moved hundreds of migrants from beaches in Spain’s North African enclave of Ceuta to temporary facilities, over a month after 72,000 people crossed into the city from Morocco in an unprecedented border rush.

The accommodation and care of the migrants has caused friction between local authorities and the central government. Ceuta is dealing with a prolonged humanitarian crisis as 5,000 migrants remain in the small city, according to the national government. Local officials cite a higher figure of up to 10,000 people.
