Sri Lanka has begun taking 208 Iranian sailors ashore – after their ship sought assistance while anchored off its waters.
The transfer came after another Iranian warship was sunk by a US submarine in the Indian Ocean.
A spokesman for the Sri Lankan Navy said the Iranians were being taken to a naval base for medical tests and border control procedures – adding that they had been acting according to international law, after one of the ship’s engines failed.
