Starmer doesn't want to 'poke the bear' over Zelenskyy-Trump clash

Sky’s political editor Beth Rigby has said the prime minister wants the UK to act as a "bridge" between the US and Europe.

Following the row between Donald Trump and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Starmer was asked about his response to that, and he said "he felt uncomfortable, nobody wants to see that. He kept going back to that line, and he wouldn’t go further than that".

Rigby added: "the reason being he just doesn’t want to poke the bear. He has had meticulous planning going into his meeting with Trump on Thursday, he understands that he wants to do it behind closed doors and he is just not prepared to provoke Trump."
