Starmer insists digital ID will be 'enormous opportunity' for UK | ITV News

The Prime Minister today unveiled controversial plans for digital ID cards which he says will crack down on people who want to work illegally in the UK.

Sir Keir Starmer said the ID will be mandatory for everyone working in the country and will show voters that the immigration system is "fair".

He also used his speech alongside other world leaders to attack the divisive politics of the far-right.

As the Prime Minister unveiled those plans, ITV News heard from one illegal worker who says compulsory ID cards won’t stop people like him.

Speaking anonymously, he told us he’s paid just 5 pounds a hour as a chef — but needs it to survive.

It came as we were invited to join the Home Office and Police during a crackdown on illegal workers in Greater Manchester.
