Starmer says Gorton and Denton byelection defeat 'very disappointing'

Keir Starmer has expressed his disappointment after losing the Gorton and Denton byelection to the Green party. Speaking to broadcasters, the prime minister said: ‘It’s a very disappointing result. Incumbent governments quite often get results like that mid-term but I do understand that voters are frustrated. They’re impatient for change.’ The Greens pulled off a landmark victory when Hannah Spencer, a plumber and councillor, was elected as the party’s first MP in northern England after overturning Labour’s 13,000-vote majority
