Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said plans for a new digital ID held on people’s phones will be an "enormous opportunity" for the UK and will make it harder for people to work illegally.
Speaking at a conference of world leaders in London on Fridat, the PM formally announced the scheme, billing it as a solution to migrants illegally working in the UK.
“Let me spell it out, you will not be able to work in the United Kingdom if you do not have digital ID," the prime minister said.
