Starmer U-turns on welfare bill

The Prime Minister has revealed major changes to the Government’s welfare bill – to head off a rebellion by more than 120 Labour rebels who had threatened to vote it down.

The concessions mean claimants currently receiving personal independence payments will continue to get them.

Work and pensions secretary Liz Kendall defended the changes, saying it had improved the bill.
