The storm season is officially underway as the Met Office named the first named storm of the season, which will hit the UK later this week.
Storm Amy is a powerful mid-Atlantic subtropical storm containing the remains of Hurricane Humberto and will bring wet and windy weather to the British Isles.
As it tracks across north-eastwards towards the UK and its subtropical warm air mass passes over the relatively cooler water of the north Atlantic, it’ll lose some of its energy – but will remain powerful as it approaches our shores
As a result, numerous weather warnings – varying in severity – are expected to be in place for impacts and potential disruption across many parts of the UK.
