Reporter Lewis Denison speaks to parents ‘striking’ against the UK’s paternity leave.
Hundreds of parents gathered across the country on Thursday as part of the "Parent Strike" protest to campaign for better paternity leave and flexible working rights.
Currently, the UK has the worst statutory paternity leave in Europe, and a survey previously found that it is putting parents off having more children.
British fathers are only entitled to two weeks off work after their child is born and are paid less than minimum wage, a total of £194.32 a week.
Campaigners say the family can benefit hugely from staying together for longer during those early weeks. Fathers can spend more time bonding with the baby and supporting the mother after the life-changing, sometimes traumatic experience of childbirth.
The group is asking for paternity leave to be extended to six weeks on 90% pay.
