Students say they are 'falling behind' due to chronic teacher shortages

Chronic teacher shortages and increased sickness absences have pushed schools to rely heavily on supply agencies, costing the education system nearly £1.4bn in the last year alone.

One headteacher told Sky News it can cost schools upwards of £200 a day for a "decent supply teacher", with schools "being held over a barrel" for some specialist subjects.
