At least 25 people have been killed in Taiwan and Hong Kong after Ragasa battered parts of east Asia, causing widespread flooding.
It peaked at super typhoon strength on Monday with maximum sustained winds of 165mph (265km/h).
The storm caused deadly destruction across Taiwan, where 14 people were killed when a decades-old lake barrier burst in eastern Hualien county, and the Philippines, where 11 deaths were reported.
In the economic hub of Guangdong province in mainland China, more than 2 million people were evacuated.
More than 100 people were injured in Hong Kong, which also experienced widespread damage. The storm surge smashed the glass doors of an upmarket hotel and flooded its lobby, according to footage circulating online. The hotel put out a statement saying no one was injured.
Scientists say storms are becoming more powerful as the world warms owing to climate breakdown.
