At least 130 people are reported to have been killed in days of clashes between Syrian fighters and gunmen loyal to the former President Bashar al-Assad.

The heavy fighting erupted along the Mediterranean coast in Jableh, spreading to Tartus and Latakia – a stronghold of Assad supporters and the Alawite religious community.
Observers claimed dozens of civilians were killed after forces supporting the new government stormed several villages near the coast.
