Syria: rallies in Idlib province mark 13 years since uprising

Large demonstrations took place in rebel-held areas of Syria in Friday, marking 13 years since the uprising against Bashar al-Assad began. Hundreds of people gathered in Idlib, held by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, a militia group that has distanced itself from its al-Qaida origins. People could be seen waving the banner of the Syrian revolution and chanting against Assad, whose repression sparked protests that eventually turned into an armed revolt and civil war.
