Tackling the football tailgaters

Entering a football match without a ticket will become a criminal offence before Sunday’s Carabao Cup final between Arsenal and Manchester City.

69 arrests were made at last year’s final after people tried to get into Wembley without a ticket.

They were arrested on suspicion of fraud but charges were never brought due to unlikely convictions.

Around 2,000 people without a ticket also gained entry to the 2020 Euros final between England and Italy, which an FA-commissioned report said could have led to deaths.

Anyone found guilty of breaking the new law will face a fine of up to £1,000 and be banned from football matches for five years.
