Taiwan minister: 'European countries need to pay more attention' | DW News

Taiwan’s deputy foreign minister Francois Wu is in Berlin as part of a diplomatic surge by Taipei across Europe. The message: “We have a problem with China.” Speaking to DW’s Richard Walker, Wu urges European democracies to pay more attention to China’s ambition to “dominate” the Indo-Pacific – saying this would have severe consequences for Europe as well as Asia. Wu addresses the ongoing diplomatic crisis between China and Japan, welcoming Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s controversial comments on Japan’s response in a Taiwan contingency, and warning that if Beijing does manage to seize Taiwan, “Japan will be next.” Wu faces questions about whether his government can deliver on its promises on defense spending, and he warns Euroepan countries like Germany not to be naïve in their dealings with China.
