Taliban's ban on women studying medicine raises fears for Afghanistan's future

As part of the Taliban’s clampdown, women can no longer study in medical institutions.

There are still some women working in Afghanistan’s hospitals – treating women and babies but the ban means no women can train now. It is a grim prospect for the future in a country where women can only really be treated by women.

The Taliban’s international spokesman, Abdul Qahar Balkh, told ITV News International Editor Emma Murphy, ‘7th grade and beyond is suspended and women can make use of other methods of education available.’
