The Environment Agency has awarded an £8 million pound contract to clean up a massive illegal waste site in Kidlington, Oxfordshire and said the removal of the rubbish could take up to a year.

The agency says that an estimated 21,000 tonnes of illegall waste was dumped and clearance is due to start next month.Critics say the contract was awarded without carrying out a competitive tender process.
The Environment Agency said they had to resort to a direct award of the contract because the situation requires “extreme and unavoidable urgency.”
