Wednesday is the UK’s hottest June day on record, with a provisional temperature of 36.1C recorded in Gosport, Hampshire.
This surpasses the previous high of 35.6C recorded in 1976 and 1957, the Met Office has said.
The UK is experiencing a record-breaking heat wave, with temperatures of up to 40C possible on Thursday in some areas, as a "heat-dome" settling over western Europe has brought extreme conditions across the continent.
