Temperatures climb past 38°C - how long will this hot weather last?

The UK has recorded its hottest day of the year so far, as temperatures soared to more than 38C in London.

Kew Gardens provisionally recorded a top temperature of 38.1C on Thursday, surpassing the previous high of 38C on June 26, the Met Office said.

This makes it the fifth hottest day on record, and also extends 2026’s record-breaking run of days above 35C.

The only other time temperatures have reached 38C twice in a year was in 2022 when the UK recorded its hottest ever temperatures, the Met Office said.
