Terror attack on Manchester synagogue leaves two people dead

An act of terror at a synagogue in Greater Manchester on the holiest of days for the Jewish faith.

It lasted barely seven minutes but they were minutes of utter devastation.

As worshippers gathered at the synagogue in Crumpsall to mark Yom Kippur, a man first rammed his car into them, then jumped out, attacking some with a knife. Two people were killed before armed police shot him dead.

Around his waist, as his body lay on the ground, was what looked like an explosive belt.

It is shocking, of course, but for many Jewish people, they say it is an attack they had feared, or even predicted, after a huge rise in antisemitic attacks since 7 October.

Warning: this report contains distressing images.
