In 2006, a group of British terrorists came close to carrying out an attack that could have changed the world forever.
Their plan: to smuggle liquid explosives onto multiple transatlantic airliners and destroy them over the Atlantic or when they reached North America – killing thousands of passengers.
As the threat intensified, MI5, counter-terrorism police and the CIA found themselves locked in a frantic race against time, deploying spies, covert surveillance teams and unprecedented resources to prevent catastrophe.
Terror in the Skies: Stopping the Liquid Bomb Plot airs on ITV1 and ITVX on July 26 at 10.20pm
