The High Court in London issued a landmark ruling today about the collapse of a dam in Brazil, which caused what’s said to be that country’s worst-ever environmental disaster.
The mining company BHP, whose headquarters were then in the UK, was found liable for the collapse of the dam in 2015, when huge quantities of toxic waste flooded the surrounding area.
600,000 people were represented in the civil lawsuit.
BHP is expected to appeal against the ruling.
