The secret sewage ‘illegally’ dumped into rivers and seas

Data obtained by Channel 4 News shows water companies across the country appear to be illegally using emergency overflows to discharge sewage into rivers and seas.

There are more than 6000 of them in England and Wales – which regulators say shouldn’t be used more than once a year. But figures show that some are pumping out sewage more than 100 times.

The Government has vowed to take action against water company bosses unless this kind of behaviour is stopped.
