The technology used to protect Roman artefacts from climate change | ITV News

Countless Roman artefacts have been recovered in immaculate condition, protected from the elements by the earth beneath our feet.

2,000-year-old leather shoes are among that collection, only because of the low amount of oxygen in the soil at Vindolanda in Northumberland.

But organic artifacts excavated more recently are showing worrying signs of decay – and that’s where modern science can help ancient history.
