Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has told Sky News there "has to be a reckoning" for those taking part in riots in cities and towns across the UK.
She warned rioters they "face arrest and a prison cell, a police cell while they wait for trial, in order to make sure that they do pay the price for what they have done".
She also put some of the blame on social media companies who are not tackling the issue of far-right extremism online.
