Thousands without water in Kent as major incident declared

A major incident has been declared in Kent and Sussex, where more than 30,000 properties have been left without water – or with an intermittent supply – for as long as five days.

South East Water blamed the cold weather for triggering burst pipes and power cuts, and insisted engineers were working around the clock to restore supplies as soon as possible. But local MPs say the company’s chief executive should resign.
