'Too little, too late,' says Covid Inquiry about UK government's response to pandemic | ITV News

Four and a half years after Boris Johnson set up the Covid Inquiry, after hearing evidence from all those who led the UK’s Covid response, today we have its verdict.

Eight hundred pages of detailed evidence can be summed up in one sentence: the UK’s response was “too little too late”.

In a conclusion that will be devastating to those who lost loved ones during the pandemic, Baroness Hallett, the inquiry chair, states: “Had the UK been better prepared, lives would have been saved, suffering reduced and the economic cost of the pandemic far lower."

Boris Johnson’s Downing Street does not come out of the inquiry well, criticised for a "toxic and chaotic culture" at the centre of government.
