Conservative former Prime Minister Theresa May has criticised Kemi Badenoch’s accouncement that a future Tory government would scrap the UK’s world-leading climate legislation, describing it as a “catastrophic mistake”.

Tory leader Ms Badenoch announced plans to repeal the Climate Change Act, which was brought in by the last Labour government in 2008 and committed the UK to cut climate emissions by 80% by 2050.
It was Theresa May who increased that figure to 100%, or what has become known as ‘net zero’, when she was PM.
