Trial by jury to be restricted?

Defendants could lose the right to trial by jury under a shake-up designed to save the court system from collapsing.

Former judge Sir Bryan Leveson has come up with measures to tackle a record backlog of court cases where some cases in England and Wales are listed for trial in 2029.

He plans propose restricting jury trials to the most serious offences and creating a new type of crown court where trials are heard only by judges
